Pre-interview Reflection

Pre-interview Reflection

I chose my subject because she is someone that I have a personal relationship with, and she has helped me make many decisions not only nursing wise but also just in an everyday since as well. I have observed this person not only go above and beyond and help others when they aren’t asked to, but I have also seen what being a nurse means to them. I know that this person works two jobs and both of those are as a nurse, one being at a hospital and the other being as a school nurse, she doesn’t have to do the school job, but she does because she like what and who she works with. She does this because she knows that there are people that look to her and lean on her at the school that if she were to leave those children wouldn’t have someone to advocate for them or not as hard as if a new person where to come in.

I would say that the leadership position that this person has is more of an informal position, they aren’t in a high-powered position, but many people respect what this person as to say and will go to them for advice. I think have a formal leadership position is one where you are either voted to be there or you just got a job higher up in the ladder than others and sometimes those in a higher leadership position aren’t leaders, they just like the power that the position comes with. While in an informal leadership position, your peers see you as someone they can go to when in a crisis or difficult situation. Being in an informal leadership position also means being calm in stressful situations and helpful in enhancing collaborative efforts.

From this interview I am most interested in learning just about how their nursing careers is and what they have gone through to get to the point that they are at now. I am also interested in learning about how they have learned to be a leader without people in higher positions getting upset at them or even how they go about being a leader.
