Preparation for Licensure and Transition to Professional Practice

Over the semester we have had to take many ATI exams, with those exams we get Individual Performance Profiles. After looking at those profiles you can see what areas went wrong and who long you took for the exam as well. After looking at the profiles and taking the next exams, I realized that each time I took more time in total for the exam because I read through the questions more in depth and I also for the longer questioned exams, I would take a short break so that I could refocus. With every exam that we had, we got to take those profiles and see what questions we got wrong and areas of content that needed to be worked on. With looking at those and knowing what the next exams content was going to be, I would look over past notes so that I could get a good idea of what might come up on the exam. I would also use the remediations from past exams that we have taken, see where I went wrong and look over that material in either my notes or the ATI resources that we have.

Doing all these exams has better helped my self-care strategies. I now know that before I take an exam, I need to make sure that there is nothing else on my mind, that I am in a quiet space with minimal distractions and that I possible I have water with me. With doing all of these I have concluded that I now have slightly better time management skills, there are still times where I will put something off until the last minute, but I have gotten a lot better at getting things done before they are due. I would also say that taking all these exams has gotten me into taking time out of my day just for myself, with the exams I need a quiet place and even after taking all of these exams I still like taking some time to myself to reflect on what has happened throughout the day.

During this semester I have learned lots and will continue to learn new things. I am going to take from this semester that its ok to go slow and be the last one taking an exam, no one is paying attention to you and if you need a break that’s also fine. I am also going to take with me to the NCLEX that I need to study but not in a way that I am stressing myself out where I forget to do other things like see friends and family. A personal and something I will take into my professional life as well is that I will take time to reflect on the days as they go by .
