Attainting and Protecting your Professional Nursing License

Attainting and Protecting your Professional Nursing License

I intend to become licensed by examination in New Hampshire, I might sit and take the exam up in Maine but I will be licensed through NH, it is part of the Nurse Licensure Compact states. The application is submitted online, there is a website for New Hampshire nursing. You need to have a verification of education credentials, you also need a copy of your driver’s license, and official transcript. You do need a criminal background check, and you have to get fingerprinted at the DMV with the form that is found online.

The NH board or nursing says that as a nurse is it is the law to report any adult or child abuse that is suspected, it can be reported to BEAS or DCYF. In NH the law states that any person who makes a report in good faith is immune from any civil or criminal liability. The report needs to be orally done immediately and then within 48 hours a written request will be made. Families can get help from the Family Resource Center that are located throughout the state and at nhchildrentrust.org. Fort adults they can be referred to the DHHS bureau of elderly and adult services (BEAS) website.

I will protect myself from these legal issues( informed consent and refusing treatment, licensure, the safeguarding of clients’ personal possessions and valuables, malpractice, negligence, mandatory reporting, abuse, and unsafe practices) by getting my own malpractice insurance, I know that hospitals have it and can cover you, but it is always a good idea to get your own so that you know you’ll be covered and that someone will be on your side. Most employers’ policies are designed to preserve the employer’s needs and interest first and you come second, having your own coverage is always important

  1. What about reporting and recovery resources for nurses experiencing substance use disorder? Also, malpractice insurance will not protect you from legal issues, it will only provide coverage in the event a claim is made against you and your license. What steps can you take to reduce the risk of ever having such claims made?
