My initial thoughts on the use of Electronic Health Records were that they were used in the hospitals and other health care services but not much other than that. I knew doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers had access to their patients records but anything more I didn’t know that they could go to past patients that had or that other hospitals could pull up records of patients. I knew that have the electronic health records was an easier way of getting information instead of having to have everything be paper files, but I didn’t realize that it was as easy as going onto a website and putting the name of the person you’re looking for and getting everything on that person. I thought you’d maybe get just when you saw them but knowing everything about the patient is much more helpful and easier.           

 Health information exchange is an independent nonprofit that provides several services to organizations, they collect information about medical records, real-time events, public health reporting’s and other information. This helps improve communication and planning of activities among healthcare providers, it improves the quality and cost outcome and provides accurate information to improve patient safety. This has made nursing and other healthcare workers jobs much easier, instead of having to guess or fight to find out certain information you can look at this database and see everything there. It also helps because you can track to see where the patient went after they are sent either home or to a different floor. I can apply what I have learned about electronic health records by telling others that these records exist if they don’t know as well as letting patients know they exists so that they can become a part of it and so they can let their providers know
