According to Nuffield, altering genes can lead to eliminating a genetic mutation but it can also be to risky. The DL talks about  having “an understanding of the need for balance in nature and the employment of this need as a gauge for the direction of our thought and action”. The DL means that there needs to be some sort of balance with how far we take this gene editing. If genome editing is used to take away a predisposed deadly gene then that is fine, but if we are editing genomes because we want a baby that has blue eyes and brown hair then there needs to be a place to stop. I think that this new technology is going to help many people but it should only be used in certain situations that need a change, like eliminating a disease.

Science as a moral enterprise is focusing on that the scientific knowledge can lead to benefiting society. If society puts their beliefs in the scientific knowledge then scientists will follow through with their technology that’ll help improve the human existence. In the video the ethicists talks about how if we do alter the genome it can ” be very risky and that there is another way”. She also talked about how there could be a concept of halves and have nots. The DL has a similar concept which sort of goes with the compassion, but he talks about how this technology will only be available to certain people. I think that if we use this new technology it should be used fairly for those who absolutely need it, but if there is another way for a disease to be eliminated we should find that before trying to manipulate out genes.

The argument that Nuffield is making is a sound argument and I agree with it because with the new technology there needs to be rules that come with it because if just anyone can get their hands on this technology someone could turn it into something that it wasn’t made for. People are going to have different views on this topic and that is reasonable, while we take all those reasons into consideration rules will be made to ensure the safety of those using this technology
